7 Signs Your Business Website Needs a Redesign

Visual comparison between an outdated business website and the same site after a modern, professional redesign

Your website is the most-viewed business card you have. A potential client who lands on it forms an opinion in under half a second, before reading a single word. If that first impression does not say professional, credible and up to date, you may be losing business every day without noticing.

How do you know when it is time to redesign? Here are the 7 clearest signs.

Sign 1: The Design Looks Like 2010

Three-dimensional gradient buttons, generic stock photos of people in suits shaking hands, Times New Roman text, a cluttered layout. These were popular 15 years ago. Today they signal neglect.

Design communicates values before words do. A visibly dated site makes visitors wonder, unconsciously, whether your products and services are dated too. The design does not need to be flashy, but it needs to look current.

Sign 2: The Site Takes More Than 3 Seconds to Load

53% of mobile users abandon a site that takes more than 3 seconds to load. And Google has treated loading speed as a ranking factor since 2021, through the Core Web Vitals.

Test your site now on PageSpeed Insights. If the Performance score is below 50, it is urgent. If it is between 50 and 75, it is needed. A professional redesign builds performance optimisation in from the start.

Sign 3: It Is Not Responsive on Mobile

More than 60% of web traffic comes from mobile devices. If your site does not adapt to small screens (tiny text, buttons you cannot tap, horizontal scrolling), you are ignoring more than half of your visitors.

A site that works well on a computer but badly on a phone is not a "small technical problem". It is a direct barrier to conversion.

Sign 4: The Bounce Rate Is High

The bounce rate, the percentage of visitors who leave without interacting, should be below 60% for most service sites. If it is above 75%, visitors are arriving and leaving straight away.

Check it in Google Analytics (in GA4 the equivalent is an engagement rate below 40%). A high bounce rate can point to confusing design, slow loading, content that does not match expectations or the lack of a clear call to action.

Sign 5: You Do Not Show Up on Google

Old sites often lack a proper SEO structure: no meta descriptions, no XML sitemap, no structured data (Schema.org), URLs with incomprehensible parameters. The result is that Google does not know how to index the site correctly.

A professional redesign fixes the SEO architecture from the ground up, and the difference in search results shows over the following 3 to 6 months.

Sign 6: The Site Does Not Generate Enquiries

A good-looking site that does not turn visitors into contacts is wasted investment. The most common reasons: no call to action above the fold, a contact form hidden on the last page, no WhatsApp button, an unclear value proposition.

If your site gets visits but few enquiries, the problem is rarely traffic. It is conversion.

Sign 7: It Is Hard to Update

Do you have to phone the developer to change a phone number or update a price? That means the site was built without thinking about your independence. A modern redesign fixes this, either with WordPress for visual content management or with a simple admin panel.

What Changes With a Professional Redesign

A well-executed redesign is not just a new look. It is a strategic rebuild that delivers:

  • Modern, clean design in line with your brand identity
  • Optimised performance (Lighthouse 90+)
  • Mobile-first, tested on iOS and Android
  • A solid SEO structure from the start
  • A clear call to action and an information hierarchy built for conversion
  • Easy to update without technical dependence

Decision Checklist

If you recognised 3 or more of the signs above, it is time to act. If you recognised 5 or more, every month of waiting costs you real opportunities.
